Japanese Sweet Bean Smoothies are delicious smoothies prepared with fruit, Japanese sweet beans, and kefir. Perfect for breakfast on the go or as a yummy treat on a hot day. Fruit and milk yogurt are blended together with flaxseed and red beans to create a drink that combines fruity and nutty tastes into a cool refreshing package.

Japanese Sweet Bean Smoothies
There is no better way to start your day than with a cold delicious smoothie. This is one of my personal favorite recipes. The smoothie features Japanese red bean paste, which is sweet and delicious – and of course healthy as well. Blended with golden flaxseed, kefir, and fruits, this amazing smoothie will fill you up and prepare you to face whatever the day brings.
Japanese Sweet Bean Smoothies
You can use your blender or bullet and whip this smoothie up in just a few minutes. The blueberries, banana, and sweet beans whip up perfectly with the kefir to provide a balanced and delicious taste. Amani (flaxseed) is used to thicken the smooth and provide a little bit of a nutty flavor.

- 3/4 cup of whole blueberries (100g)
- 1 medium banana, peeled (100g)
- 2 TBSP tsubu-an ( prepared Azuki beans)(50g)
- 1 TBSP amani (Golden Flaxseed) (5g)
- 1 cup milk yogurt or kefir (237 cc)
- 1 1/2 cup ice cubes
Instructions:
- Prepare: Add all ingredients to a blender or a bullet. Blend until smooth throughout.
Notes:
- Tsubu-an is also known as anko, or coarse sweet bean paste. Anko is used in many Japanese desserts and pastries. It can be purchased at an Asian grocery or online, or you can easily make your own using dry azuki beans.
- The golden flaxseed in this recipe will thicken the smoothie but is optional. There are many benefits to eating flaxseed. But the smoothie is delicious with or without it. The Japanese word for golden flaxseed is “Amani.” Make sure that you add the amani to your blender after you add the kefir so it does not clump on the bottom.
- Kefir, or milk yogurt, is delicious and healthy. You can buy it in the store or make your own using a culture.
