Spinach and Feta Hamburger- serving suggestion

This is not a Japanese recipe – it’s actually a Turkish recipe that has been in my family for generations.  My father’s parents emigrated from Turkey to the United States over 100 years ago.  This is a recipe passed on from my grandmother to my father, and now I like to make it when I have an opportunity.

This burger is loaded with protein and very low in calories if you use lean ground beef.  It’s very simple to make using feta cheese, chopped spinach, egg, salt, pepper, onion and allspice, all combined by hand and baked.  No breading is added because the egg and the cheese do a great job of binding the pattie together.

Spinach and Feta Hamburger

Delicious, savory, and loaded with spinach and cheese, this wonderful Turkish burger is sure to please!  Mix up the Pattie’s by hand because you will need to break up the feta cheese as you are mixing it.

Notes:

  • The nutritional information below assumes 85% lean beef.  97% lean beef will yield a 171 calorie burger.
  • Make sure to break the feta up well as you are mixing it in with the meat.  The more the cheese is broken up, the better the burger will come out.
